How can we help?
Dropped Object Survey (DROPS) is significant for workplace safety and risk management. As a provider of this essential service, Rig Shield can offer valuable insights to our clients in various industries
What is a Dropped Object Survey?
- A Dropped Object Survey (DROPS) is a comprehensive inspection and assessment process that focuses on identifying potential hazards related to objects falling from height within a workplace or operational environment.
- The goal of DROPS is to improve workplace health and safety, ensure compliance with local and international regulations, and mitigate risks associated with dropped objects.
Our Insights of Conducting DROPS:
- Early Problem Detection: Rigorous inspections allow early identification of equipment or structural issues that could lead to dropped objects. Addressing these issues promptly prevents accidents and delays.
- Risk Mitigation: By assessing the risk of explosions or unsafe equipment installations, DROPS helps create a safer working environment for personnel.
- Efficient Maintenance Strategy: DROPS surveys provide insights into equipment due for maintenance, recertification, or certification renewal. Proper planning reduces maintenance costs and ensures compliance.
- Enhanced Efficiency and Reliability: Regular inspections maintain optimal rig performance, minimizing downtime and improving overall efficiency through arranging certain visits for the rig sites during the DROPS campaigns.
- Asset/Productivity Improvement: DROPS contributes to better asset productivity by addressing potential threats proactively.
- Recommendations for Improvement: our survey reports (Fail & Pass List, and checklist repost) can provide valuable insights and recommendations for improving work processes, equipment design, and personnel training to enhance safety.
How Do Our DROPS Surveyors Work?
- During a DROPS survey, Rig Shield Surveyors thoroughly inspect tools, equipment, and structural assets on rigs.
- Criteria checked include:
- Object location.
- Object description.
- Unique ID number.
- Primary securing methods.
- Secondary retention methods.
- Each surveyed object is documented, and a pass/fail assessment is provided.
- Safe and unsafe areas are mapped using a color-coded system, ensuring risk mitigation.
Color Coding System:
Minimal likelihood of personnel exposure to dropped objects under normal circumstances. Authorized personnel can enter freely.
Only personnel with specific tasks and authorization may enter the area.
zones that contain a high risk for personnel to exist in this area during normal activities
Finally, Rig Shield can demonstrate the importance of drops objective surveys in preventing accidents, promoting a safer work environment, and supporting overall operational efficiency for our clients.
